The Caribbean legend said, ‘In my opinion, India has taken the game to a different level, especially in limited overs ODIs, T20s. This is a great gift for fans as they show love and passion for the game. I think because of that love and passion and the country it’s played in, the result would have been right.” Richards also said that the enthusiasm and craze for cricket that is seen in India inspires the team to continuously improve.

Viv Richards also compared India’s success with the West Indies team of his era. He reminded that during his time West Indies had dominated world cricket and created history by winning the World Cup. He said- “We won the first World Cup in 1975 and the next in 1979. Therefore, cricket has played a huge role in where we are today as West Indies and what is more, those who have been fans of West Indies teams in the past will definitely remember some of our wonderful moments.”

Now India’s next target

The Indian team recently won the T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Earlier, India had also won the Champions Trophy 2025, while the team was the runner-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
