Work From Home in UP: Keeping in mind the escalating tensions in West Asia—and following PM Modi’s appeal for the judicious use of fuel—UP CM Yogi Adityanath has now issued directives regarding ‘Work From Home’ (WFH).

Work From Home: On Tuesday (May 12, 2026), amidst a global oil crisis and a deepening energy crunch, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a major announcement regarding the implementation of a two-day-per-week ‘Work From Home’ policy to curb fuel consumption.

Furthermore, he urged the citizens of the state to join in and support the Prime Minister’s appeal. These directives were issued by the Chief Minister while presiding over a meeting with the Chief Secretary, the DGP, and all Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries of various departments, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity and energy conservation.

50% Reduction in Official Convoys

He also directed that the official convoys (fleets) of the Chief Minister, state ministers, and senior administrative officials be reduced by 50% with immediate effect.

An official statement noted: “The Chief Minister also appealed for prioritizing a ‘Work-From-Home’ culture within the state. He placed special emphasis on the utilization of PNG, Metro services, public transport, and buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). For workplaces with a large workforce, a state-level advisory should be issued recommending a ‘Work-From-Home’ arrangement for two days a week.”

“Seminars, meetings, and workshops organized by the Education Department—as well as other official gatherings—should also be conducted via virtual platforms. Furthermore, 50 percent of all internal meetings held at the State Secretariat and Directorate levels should be conducted virtually.”

The 2-Day Hybrid Model

IT companies, large startups, and industrial units situated in major cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, and Lucknow have been advised to facilitate a ‘Work From Home’ option for their employees for two days each week. Additionally, for the general public, a weekly ‘No-Vehicle Day’—to be observed one day a week—has been proposed. The plan aims to engage government employees, students, and the general public in this campaign to minimize the use of private vehicles.

Promoting Carpooling and EVs

Companies have been directed to encourage their employees to utilize carpooling and electric vehicles (EVs) at their respective organizational levels.
