Neymar has returned to full training ahead of Brazil's final Group C match against Scotland in Miami on Wednesday, handing the five-time world champions an enormous boost at exactly the right moment of the tournament.
The Santos forward, who had been sidelined since the start of the 2026 World Cup with a grade two calf strain, completed his first full training session with the squad since the group assembled at their base in Terespolis, near Rio de Janeiro, on May 27. A visibly elated Neymar took to X to share glimpses of his training drills, captioning it with the words: "Thank you, God, I'm so incredibly happy!"
Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Friday that the 34-year-old had recovered sufficiently and would be named in the matchday squad for the Scotland clash. For Brazil fans around the world, it was the news they had been waiting for.
Teammate Lucas Paqueta summed up the mood in the dressing room perfectly. "We're all pleased about Neymar's return," the midfielder said. "He's an extremely important player for our national team, someone with a wonderful history who can help us a lot. I hope he can be on the field helping us again as soon as possible."
The stakes could not be higher. Brazil currently lead Group C with four points, with Morocco second on goal difference. Scotland sit third with three points, meaning Wednesday's clash in Miami carries significant weight for both sides.
For Neymar personally, this World Cup carries a meaning beyond football. Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 international appearances, he has already indicated that the 2026 edition will be the last World Cup of his career. He has not pulled on the Seleção shirt since suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in October 2023, a long and painful road back that has finally, it seems, reached its destination.
The stage is set. Neymar is ready. And Brazil, with him back in the fold, look ready too.
