The Central Government has opened a box of happiness for the people of the country’s capital Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. In the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, two very important and big highway projects have been given the green signal. The most prominent among these is the six-lane Dwarka Tunnel project to be built in Delhi. Along with this, a big plan has also been approved to improve the connectivity between Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. With the completion of both these projects, time of lakhs of passengers will be saved and the thrill of travel will double.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed the media about the decisions taken in the cabinet meeting. He informed that the Cabinet has approved the proposal to build a magnificent 6-lane tunnel to connect Dwarka Expressway with NH-148AE. The total length of this very modern tunnel will be 8.1 kilometers and it will cost about Rs 6969.67 crore (approximately Rs 6970 crore) to build it. This project will be built on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM).
This tunnel project will directly connect Urban Extension Road 2 (UER 2) and Dwarka Expressway to Vasant Kunj, a posh area of South Delhi. With this, people commuting between West Delhi and South Delhi will get great relief from the jam and the journey will become very fast. Not only this, the construction of this tunnel will also directly benefit the heavy traffic going from Gurugram, Dwarka, IGI Airport and from West Delhi to South Delhi.
In the cabinet meeting, a big decision has also been taken to speed up the development of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The government has approved upgrading the Kanpur-Kabarai section of NH-34 in Uttar Pradesh as a 4/6 lane access-controlled highway on BOT i.e. Build-Operate-Transfer (toll) mode. The total estimated cost of this entire project has been fixed at Rs 7145.14 crore.
This new highway project will not only increase the speed of vehicles between Kanpur and Kabrai, it will also strengthen the connectivity to Sagar, Bhopal and other important areas of Madhya Pradesh. Experts believe that this will create a very modern and access-controlled economic corridor. This corridor will directly connect the major industrial and commercial centers of Uttar Pradesh with the mineral-rich, manufacturing and agriculture-oriented areas of Madhya Pradesh, which will significantly improve the business and economic conditions of both the states.
