Patna. This time in Bihar, due to weak monsoon, cultivation of Kharif crops has started getting affected. Due to below normal rainfall recorded in many districts, the pace of paddy transplantation has also slowed down. In view of such situation, the state government has announced the implementation of diesel subsidy scheme to provide relief to the farmers. The aim of the government is to reduce the increasing expenditure on irrigation and to protect crops from the effects of drought.
Benefits will be available on the basis of district reports
The government has sought a detailed report from the District Magistrates of all 38 districts on the rainfall situation and its impact on farming. Based on these reports the affected areas will be identified. Where farming has been affected due to less rainfall, farmers will be given the benefit of diesel subsidy. Preparations are on to start the process of grant distribution as soon as the report is received.
Focus on saving Kharif crops
Paddy is cultivated in maximum area during Kharif season in Bihar. Due to insufficient rainfall, farmers have to irrigate through diesel pumps, which increases the cost of farming. The government believes that by getting diesel subsidy, farmers will get financial relief and they will be able to protect their crops by irrigating on time.
12 hour power supply instructions
Along with diesel subsidy, to strengthen the irrigation system, the government has instructed the officials to provide electricity through agricultural feeders from 6 am to 6 pm i.e. for 12 hours. With this, farmers who have electrically operated pumps will also get convenience in irrigation and their dependence on diesel will be reduced.
cost of farming will reduce
Due to increase in the price of diesel in agriculture, the cost of irrigation is continuously increasing. In such a situation, diesel subsidy can prove to be direct financial assistance for farmers. Small and marginal farmers are expected to benefit the most from this, as a large part of their farming depends on irrigation.
