Indian adventurers have reached Mount Kilimanjaro in the past too and this trend will continue in future also. But special attention should be paid to Dharmishthaben because, on Mount Kilimanjaro, which is considered one of the seven highest peaks of the world, she dressed in the world famous Indian garment, nine-wari saree and hoisted the Indian tricolor.

The reason for dressing up in a nine-color saree and waving the tricolor?

Generally, after mountaineering, skiing or trekking, people pose for photographs in the prescribed attire. And that's how everyone announces personal achievements. “But I wanted to showcase Indian attire at an altitude of 5,895 meters (19,340 feet),” it was decided. And that's why I took the saree with me while going to Tanzania.

Navwari Saree and its glorious history:

Dharmishtha Patel says that, in the name of Smash Patriarchy and in the name of Manusmriti, some people stir up controversy and spread the narrative that Indian women are exploited and victimized, but in reality this Navwari saree is the biggest symbol of the freedom and power of the Indian woman. Western women started wearing trousers in 1850 and this was promoted as women's liberation. But the fact is that the Navwari saree, a symbol of courage, strength and equality, has been worn by Indian women since the early 20th century.

This is a type of northern clothing. With just one piece of clothing, a woman can cover her entire body proudly and can do her daily chores wearing it without any problem. This is a type of dhoti style saree. Dharmishthaben says that generally this saree is known as Maharashtrian saree, but it is also popular in South India as Madisar.

Kilimanjaro and other adventures:

Two months ago, i.e. on June 16, 2026, Dharmishtha Patel, who had summited Kilimanjaro peak (locally known as Uzulu Peak) in Tanzania, had earlier done Mount Renok Expedition, Chadar Trek – Thejeli River. Kashmir Great Lakes Trek, Sar Pass Trek, Kedarkantha Trek, Brahmatal Trek, Meghalaya Trek, Valley of Flowers, Sheshnag Trek, Green Top Trek, Aru Trail Run have done expeditions and trekking.

All this became possible due to my husband's encouragement.

Since the family situation was very normal, we three brothers and sisters helped each other in studies and we were able to complete our studies. I did mountaineering courses and then started participating in various expeditions. Cost and arrangements of mountaineering:

As said earlier, since mountaineering and skiing are considered the king of sports, they cost a lot. The Sports Department of Gujarat Government helps in this. However, Dharmishtha completed this campaign by getting sponsorship from Shyam (hotel and resort) group.

Dharmishtaben Patel, who won the assurance prize in the skiing competition, gives valuable advice to the youth. They say that though traditional studies are necessary in life, after completing 12th standard one should take a drop year or go on a solo trip to different places in the country during college. The confidence that will develop in you by doing budget travel, going among people and talking to people will be very useful in life. Coming out of the reel and having real-life experience will prove more useful in overcoming the challenges of life.
