New Delhi:The action of the Election Commission regarding the investigation of voter list in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, is in the news. Let us tell you, under the Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR process, notices have been issued to many well-known personalities of the city. These include names like actor Mahesh Babu, filmmaker SS Rajamouli, former cricketer VVS Laxman and badminton player Saina Nehwal.

Names from film and sports world included

According to the information, apart from the film and sports world, there are some people associated with business in the list of those who received the notice. Names of Mahesh Babu's wife Namrata, director SS Rajamouli, actor Venkatesh Daggubati and his daughters, actresses Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Vijay Deverakonda, Anand Deverakonda, VVS Laxman, former cricketer Mithali Raj, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, Murali Krishna Prasad Divi and Upasana Kondidela have also surfaced.

Why was the notice sent?

The purpose of SIR is to check the voter list and remove the errors present in it. During the investigation by the officials, discrepancies were found in the information to name or parents' names in some records. In some cases the information of the people concerned did not match with the old SIR records. Apart from this, the reason for issuing notice to some people has not been clearly explained.

According to election officials, people who receive the notice can get themselves verified as per the prescribed procedure. For this they will also have to submit necessary documents. If there is any kind of mistake in the record, there is also an option to correct it. Persons who cannot attend the hearing themselves can send an authorized person on their behalf.

Notice does not mean removal of name from voter list

The most important thing in this matter is that receipt of SIR notice is not in itself an indication of disqualification of a person from voting. This also does not mean that the voter registration of the person concerned has been cancelled. After the draft voter list is prepared, the process of checking the records and making necessary corrections is carried out by the Election Commission. Under this process, documents and information are being verified from the concerned people. Only after this will the decision regarding the name in the final voter list be taken.
