Indian rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan secured a historic bronze medal in the men’s double sculls at the Asian Games, giving India its first-ever medal in the event.

The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25 and were in second place until the 1,500-metre mark before slipping to third in the final 500 metres. China won gold in 6:09.37, while Uzbekistan took silver in 6:10.49.

The duo had been paired together only five days before the event following changes to India’s boat combinations. Satnam said he was proud to be part of India’s first Asian Games medal in the event, while also expressing disappointment over the changes involving his previous partner.
