Baghpat. While people stop preparing for competitive exams after a certain age, 59-year-old Vijay Kumar Sharma of Baghpat did not give up his efforts till the last attempt to become a government teacher and ultimately achieved victory as per his name.

Vijay, who had set the goal of becoming a government teacher in the year 1999, continued his preparation for 27 years and after many unsuccessful attempts, now at the age of 59, his name is in the list of government teachers.

Sharma says that for him this is more than a job, it is the fulfillment of the goal which he had set in the year 1999. Sharma, a resident of Badhavad village of Baraut area, has been selected for the post of TGT Sanskrit teacher in an aided secondary school in Shamli district. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath handed over the appointment letter to him in a program organized at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow last Monday.

Sharma told that he kept appearing in teacher recruitment examinations for a long time. He passed TGT written examination six times and PGT examination four times. He also appeared for interview about eight times, but he was not selected. Despite this he continued his preparation. This time, he got selected even though there was no interview in the recruitment process.

Interestingly, while preparing for a government job, Sharma taught children in a private school for about 26 years. He continued teaching Hindi and Sanskrit in Vivekananda Vidyapeeth and Doon Public School. According to Doon Public School Director Prashant Jain, Sharma was busy preparing for competitive examinations along with teaching.

Sharma's father Laxman Singh was also a teacher. He has two sons working in Uttar Pradesh Police and three daughters. One of his daughters has also been selected for the post of teacher and is on the waiting list. Sharma says that after every unsuccessful attempt, he improved his preparation to some extent. He believes that age is not a hindrance in the path of success, provided the efforts continue. Now, the appointment received at the age of 59 is the end of a journey of 27 years for Sharma, in which the hopes of selection were raised and broken many times, but the goal of becoming a government teacher did not waver.
