There was an atmosphere of unprecedented chaos throughout the day due to the Jantar Mantar march of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) organized against the Chief Election Commissioner and against the voter list amendment process in the country's capital Delhi. Despite not being allowed to protest, thousands of workers and common citizens from different states of the country started moving towards Jantar Mantar. Considering the sensitivity of the situation, the Home Ministry and Delhi Police had made strict security arrangements by imposing Section 144 in the entire capital. Multi-layer barricading was done on all major routes connecting Lutyens' Delhi and the entry and exit gates of several major metro stations were closed due to security reasons. Despite this, the crowd of workers and supporters continued to try to move towards central Delhi through different routes, leading to heavy traffic jams in many areas and heated clashes with policemen on the road. Police took into custody senior leaders including Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Abhijit Dipke. Delhi Police launched a massive crackdown campaign to stop the protest. As soon as the plane reached Delhi from Mumbai, top CJP leaders Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were taken into custody. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had come to participate in the protest, were also stopped by the police on the borders and roads of Delhi and sent to different police stations in police vans. While sharing a video message from Jafarpur police station, Kejriwal termed this action of the government as dictatorship and said that the government's jails will be reduced, but the voice of the public will not be silenced. Apart from this, famous YouTuber Dhruv Rathi was picked up from his Gurugram residence and hundreds of lawyers, journalists and social workers were also taken into precautionary custody by Delhi Police. According to police figures, more than 7,000 people were taken to different police stations throughout the day. Serious questions raised regarding human rights and legal process, new organization head of CJP appointed. As soon as the news of this mass detention in Delhi spread, sharp reactions started coming in political circles and human rights organizations. Senior lawyers and civil society representatives expressed concern over this swift police action, while many lawyers and activists were given relief by the evening following the intervention and informal directions of the Supreme Court. On the other hand, soon after the arrest of the top leadership of CJP, the organization announced the name of its new national organization in-charge Ajinkya Shinde. Ajinkya Shinde released a video and told his supporters that this dictatorial government is afraid of the unity of the country. He gave a clear message to the supporters that wherever the police blocked the way, they should continue their peaceful protest by building their Jantar Mantar there. CJP's new ultimatum to the government and the strategy for further protests. Even after this unprecedented political drama that lasted throughout the day, the phase of protests does not seem to be stopping. Most of the protesters detained by the police administration were released late in the evening after necessary legal formalities, although several key CJP leaders are said to be still under police control. Meanwhile, the CJP organization has made it clear that their agitation will continue until the Election Commission and the government accept their demands. The organization has again announced to take out a massive march in Delhi on Sunday and move towards Jantar Mantar. Here, security agencies have also increased vigilance in view of the announcement of new march and have tightened the checking operation on the borders of the national capital, due to which the tension in Delhi is likely to increase in the coming days.
