Team India's batting all-rounder Naman Dheer has taken 5 wickets so far in T20 International. He made his T20I debut against West Indies in Lucknow on 6 October, taking 3 wickets. After this, Naman Dhir took 2 wickets in Indore on Sunday (11 October). India has won both these matches, due to which the team is leading 2-1 in the series.
An interesting pattern has been seen in Naman Dhir's bowling performance so far. Whenever any Caribbean batsman hits him for a six, he takes revenge by dismissing him with the very next ball or in the same over. In Lucknow, he was hit for sixes by Shai Hope, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer. Naman Dheer had dismissed all three of them on the very next ball. A similar pattern was seen in Indore also.
Shimron Hetmyer hit him for a four on the fourth ball of his first over and then a six on the fifth ball. Naman Dheer made a strong comeback on the last ball and clean bowled Hetmyer. After this, Kamil Puran hit 3 sixes in the 11th over of West Indies' innings. Naman Dheer once again did what he has been doing in this series. He took the wicket of Kamil Puran on the last ball of the over.
26-year-old Naman Dheer is a middle order batsman and he bowls part-time off spin. He says that batting helps him to understand the batsmen better during bowling. A batsman's stance, backlift, guard and shot selection predict his intentions as to what he will do with the next ball.
He told GeoStar, 'Being a batsman gives an advantage because you understand the batsman's stance, the direction of his backlift, the guard and his way of playing. I constantly keep an eye on these things while bowling. After hitting 3 sixes, he said on the wicket of Kamil Puran, 'I had not planned to give 3 sixes and then take the wicket. When Kamil Puran was batting, he was trying to play every shot on the leg side and create space for the shot. That's why I didn't want to give him space.
Naman Dhir further said, 'I made some mistakes on the first two balls. I knew that I was bowling my third over, the batsman was settled at the crease and because of the high run rate he would try to take risks. Ultimately he got out playing the kind of shot I wanted him to play. He was caught out at square leg. So these small things help me a lot and as a bowler I keep an eye on such minute details.
