The family of a 26-year-old man who was shot dead while sitting in a car near Euston station in London have paid tribute to him. Metropolitan police officers were called to the Camden area to reports of gunshots at around 11pm on Saturday, March 28.

The victim, who has been identified as Nahom Medhanie, sadly died at the scene on Chalton Street, despite the work of emergency services. Police said CCTV showed a suspect, who arrived and left on a bike, firing several shots at the man who was sitting in a white Nissan Juke. The case is being investigated by homicide detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command, the Met Police said on Tuesday. No arrests have been made at this time.

In a tribute released through the Met, Mr Medhanie's family said: "Nahom was more than a son and a brother to us, and since his passing it has been the hardest days of our lives.

"He was funny, honest and would just light up the room with his presence, and that's what we loved most about him."

His family, who are being supported by specialist officers, have asked for privacy.

A man who works on Chalton Street and wished to be known only as Shamim, said one of his colleagues heard the gunshots.

Shamim told the Press Association on Sunday, March 29: "My colleague told me there was a big bang. A loud bang a few times."

He added patrons of the nearby pub - The Cock Tavern - came out to see what had happened.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke said on the weekend: "We are aware of the concern that this will cause for the local community, and want to reassure them that we are working hard to identify the attacker and bring them to justice.

"If anyone has any information that could help us, it is extremely important that they contact the police - either through 101, online or via independent charity Crimestoppers to remain anonymous.

"Our thoughts are with the young man's family at this incredibly difficult time."

Anyone with information on the incident should call 101 quoting CAD 8032/28Mar, or, to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
